Dynamic Response of Concentrically Braced Steel Frames to Pulse Period in Near-Fault Ground Motions

چکیده
Steel braced frame systems (SBFs) having high stiffness and strength are commonly utilized due to their resistance lateral seismic forces in regions with seismicity. In this study, concentrically frames (CBFs) different bracing configurations used obtain the significance of pulse period associated near-fault (NF) ground motion by time-history dynamic analysis. Besides, far-fault (FF) motions also compare NF results according chancing configurations. To achieve responses steel concentric bracings under motions, which especially have small, medium, long periods, 3-story 4-span CBFs were selected as an example. 4 FF 12 durations chosen evaluate response frames. The showed that peak acceleration (PGA) could be identified a key parameter controls motions. addition, ratio duration first mode is dominant when only greater than 1.0

OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE-BASED DESIGN OF CONCENTRICALLY BRACED STEEL FRAMES SUBJECTED TO NEAR-FAULT GROUND MOTION EXCITATIONS
This paper presents a practical methodology for optimization of concentrically braced steel frames subjected to forward directivity near-fault ground motions, based on the concept of uniform deformation theory. This is performed by gradually shifting inefficient material from strong parts of the structure to the weak areas until a state of uniform deformation is achieved. In this regard, to ove...
متن کاملEvaluation of 2D concentrically braced frames with cylindrical dampers subjected to near-field earthquake ground motions
Near field earthquakes have imposed major damage to buildings in the past years. In some cases, the intensity of such damage is too considerable to be disregarded. The most effective way to improve seismic performance of buildings is applying a seismic control technique. The cylindrical friction damper is one of these methods, which has become popular for its desirable performance in the energy...
متن کاملSelection of Optimal Intensity Measure for Seismic Assessment of Steel Buckling Restrained Braced Frames under Near-Fault Ground Motions
Buckling restrained braces (BRBs) have a similar behavior under compression and tension loadings. Therefore, they can be applied as a favorable lateral load resisting system for structures. In the performance-based earthquake engineering (PBEE) framework, an intermediate variable called intensity measure (IM) links the seismic hazard analysis with the structural response analyses. An optimal IM...
متن کاملEvaluating Response Modification Factors of Concentrically Braced and Special Moment Steel Frames in Duplex Buildings
Response modification factor (R-factor) is one of the seismic design parameters to consider nonlinear performance of building structures during strong earthquake. Relying on this, many seismic design codes led to reduce earthquake loads imposed to the structure. The present paper tries to evaluate the R-factors of conventional concentric braced frames (CBFs) and special moment frames (MRFs) in ...
متن کاملWavelet-based Analysis for Pulse Period of Earthquake Ground-motions
Pulse period of earthquake records has been known as a key parameter in seismology and earthquake engineering. This paper presents a detailed characterization of this parameter for a special class of earthquake records called pulse-like ground motions. This type of motions often resulting from directivity effects is characterized by a strong pulse in the velocity time history of motion, in norm...
